Other big news in the last 24 hours: Amnesty International releases a big report on black sites, rendition, and torture by the U.S. Government.
and, of course, Tiktaalik roseae. Darwin 1, Creationists 0.
And nothing will come of this. Nothing.
I swear, they used to refer to Reagen as being made of Teflon, but he has nothing on Dubbya. I swear, there could be footage of the CIC shooting a person in the head and all it would get is some airtime and the inevitable spin that it was the Democrats fault that it happened at all.
Makes me very sad.
Actually, all evidence indicates that the president's personal involvement makes this not neccesarily a crime, since the president can declassify anything he likes.
Leaking classified information in order to exact political payback, however, is about par for the course with any of the other crimes this president has comitted. He believes himself to be a king, and congress has been happy to let him get away with everything. I'll be mildly shocked if that changes anytime soon.
McClellan - October 7, 2003: "Let me answer what the President has said. I speak for the President and I'll talk to you about what he wants." and "If someone leaked classified information, the President wants to know. If someone in this administration leaked classified information, they will no longer be a part of this administration, because that's not the way this White House operates, that's not the way this President expects people in his administration to conduct their business."
From DailyKos Bush himself has finally copped to reality: "This is a serious charge, by the way. We're talking about a criminal action."
Bush - July 18, 2005: "I would like this to end as quickly as possible so we know the facts. And if someone committed a crime, they will no longer work in my administration."
Impeach.
I think Congress needs to seriously revamp some powers of the Presidency and define some limits. This is not the first President (for one example Nixon) who believed since he was President somehow that made him magically immue to law. The President does not make Law, Congress does, the President approves the actions of Congress. It goes two ways and I think American Presidents need to be reminded of that. Of course we have achieved something the founding fathers never really thought a great deal about, possibly because they never envisioned that it could happen and that is that all branches of the federal gov't be controlled by one party.
