[Politics] Your hunch is right! Bush is evil incarnate.

A story today in The New York Times details the disgusting stance the Bush White House is taking to 'aid' the inquiry into what went wrong during the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

'White House Declines to Provide Storm Papers'

As one can easily imagine they are refusing to release sensitive documents citing executive privilege. Bull shit. Or should I say Bush shit? What secrets of their success are they trying to hide from those who wish to do our nation harm? I know, I know, how to play the blame game whilst claiming to rise above such finger pointing. These are probably the key documents about disaster preparedness Bush colored a ducky on instead of reviewing like Uncle Dick said.

It's not as if people and the world didn't notice the lackluster response of the Bush administration to the hurricane. They can admit they did wrong - we already know! At the very least let the process be reviewed for what went wrong so the problems can begin to be addressed. If they care so much about the American people, then keep this from happening again.

Why do you hate America?

Seriously, this administration seems almost pathologically incapable of admitting error, and the idea that they would choose to turn over evidence of their incompetence, indifference, and quite possibly malice is just foolish wishful thinking. From their own words and actions, it is clear that they see themselves as virtual kings, who neither desire nor are required to explain themselves to the 'little people'.

Personally, I'm more interested in the documents dealing with their actions regarding Iraq, rendition and torture, etc.

The way to keep this from happening again is to not rebuild NOLA. That was a disatster waiting to happen. Building in an area that is one in a million of the worst possible combinations of geology for a major city was just stupid. The government's lackluster response was, I'd guess, equal parts subtle class warfare (as opposed to racism), laziness, cronyism, and the fact that the national guard (whose job it is to GUARD THE NATION) was off in our dubious little war of resource agression in the middle east, and thus unable to mobilize.

I would be happy merely seeing Rove indicted. But that is mainly because I really despise 'turd blossom'.

Death to the Great Satan!

Drew had a lovely cartoon today, and I'd like to believe it's for me today.

That really sums it up. Rationally, I know this admin will perpetually be in denial of any wrong doing. But when I stop expecting the best from our leaders and stop becoming outraged over their falling short of the ideal, then they have won. Mediocrity, greed, arrogance, and injustice have won.

As for the rebuilding, I fear the government that denies citizens the right to choose their home. And if many citizens - against good common sense - decide to build in an area, I believe the government has a responsibility to protect its citizens. Look at the fantastic system of levies the Netherlands has built. To create something like that, the cost is estimated to be ~20 billion, one tenth of the cost of clean up! These levies are rated to with stand all but the 1 storm every 10,000.

Here's an article 'bout that.

I'd be happy merely seeing Rove pied.
