Patching for this kind of thing in large organizations would be a pain.

Counterpoint:

By increasing Daylight-Saving time, we will save billions of dollars (energy costs), we will save lives (fewer car accidents), we will cut down on crime.

Harpers magazine this month had an interesting article on timekeeping and the debate between an astronomical based time record and a more physics based one. Good reading.

I know it will save money (and theoretically resources). But it does not change the fact that for the fifth time in 9 years I get to spend the holiday season in the data center and not at home or with family.

(I understand this is because of my choosen profession, but also note most people and managers have no f-ing clue about IT or what it takes and the sacrifices most of their staffs make)

I also don't think Congress understands anything when it comes to energy policy.

No, they don't. And if you remind them they get uncomfortable and no longer want to talk to you.

I saw this as an Air Traffic Controller having to do shift work in Germany.

I saw it as an emergency operations communications specialist in North Dakota, when I worked with the police, fire department, and university maintenance people.

Then I saw it in IT.

I swear, the best thing that ever happened for my sanity was getting diagnosed with Shift Work Sleep Disorder on top of my Sleep Apnea. The days of working 24 / 7 were finally over.

Problem is, until he IT field unionizes (and yes, it should) you're gonna be putting up with crap like that -- and worse -- for a long time to come.
