[Politics] Minnesota AG race

Wow, Matt Entenza bows out of the race for Minnesota Attorney General.

Updated: Looks like Steve Kelley is in and David Lillehaug is not.

Update 2: Bill Luther is in too. Mike Freeman is also looking likely, according to MNPublius.

Update 3: Mike Freeman not so much per Centrisity.

I have the list of all candidates at Johnson v. TBA, the blog formerly known as Johnson v. Entenza.

Who do you like for DFL AG candidate, and why? Please let me know, and I'll put your blog in the "Blogs for ..." list that I'm making for each AG candidate.

My first candidate was Entenza, until this, which is why I am so angry at what happened. My second choice has not been determined. Entenza would be a bulldog as AG, like Hatch was, which is what is needed in that position, someone not afraid to do what is right and to take on whomever needs it.

Well, at this point, given the slate of candidates that have filed, I'm going to throw my support for Steve Kelley. Having met him at the DFL state convention, he seemed like a tenacious and intelligent man, capable of running a strong campaign. Also, given that he abided by the endorsement for Governor at the convention, it would be a nice way for the DFL State Central Committee to reward that loyalty by giving him the nod. I'm certain that he has the chops to be a good AG.

He can run a strong campagin, but can he run a strong AG office? I know very little about Kelley.

He certainly didn't seem timid. I doubt he'd be the bulldog Mike Hatch is (all things being equal, I wish Hatch would have stayed as AG), but I'm not sure many people could be. There is a certain tenacity and, well, stick-in-the-eye approach that Hatch brought to the AG's office that has served Minnesota fairly well, an approach which I think will not serve him so well as Governor (and for the record, I'm still supporting Becky Lourey for Gov, although I'll support Hatch when he gets the voters nod in the fall). Frankly, I'll probably support any candidate the DFL gets behind for AG, but for me, given the list of those that have filed, Kelley would be my choice.
