Idiocy { North Korea

Ugh.

So an isolated militarized (not to mention starving and miserable) nation run by a wingnut has tested a nuke and confirmed that they possess weapons whose only implementable use are as instruments of terrorism and fear.

Based on history, it will probably lend them bargaining power.

I wonder what the world response will be, aside from the obvious denounciations. Sanctions? Naval blockade? Incineration?

Worst that will happen are economic sanctions. All the major powers including China have condemned them, but I can't see the UN Security Council doing more than passing sanctions. We (the US) are in no position, due to the War in Iraq and Afganistan, as well as the 'War on Terror' back home, to do much. We may manuver a nuclear missle sub and possibly a carrier group around there, but nothing will happen.

What should we do? Hard to say. Part of me says let China know and then sugrical strike the key nuclear related sites in the country. But the result of that is dubious as they have already manufactured somewhere between 1-12 bombs according to them. Either way, N. Korea is a model that other countries (I would say most notably Iran) are watching closely.

Of course we can't really stop other countries testing nuclear weapons since we've both pulled out all nuclear test ban treaties and have started development of nuclear 'bunker buster' weapons.

Some comment indicating that the bomb might have been a 'fizzle'.
