Military Commissions Act of 2006 - The Torture Bill
* Makes torture de facto legal.
* Suspends Habeus Corpus (unconstitutional), a bedrock of legal protection since the Magna Carta in the year 1215.
* Allows the President to interpret the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners to his liking.
* Eliminates judicial review of any of these abuses.
* Allows coerced evidence.
* Allows secret evidence to be used against someone.
* Indefinite detention without being charged with any crime.
* Applies to U.S. citizens. If the president says you are an enemy combatant, all your rights vanish under the guise of national security. He could send liberals who piss him off to Gitmo. This is basically a Sedition Act.
* Pardons Bush and his entire administration of war crimes they have comitted, including retroactively, since 2001-09-11
The House votes to adopt the Senate language of the bill tomorrow. It will almost certainly pass and be signed into law. Are these the acts of intelligent, balanced, and considered men and women? No. This is a work of utter treason. We failed to heed Nietzsche's warning.

You beat me to it. I was outraged when I read the Senate passed the bill, the same bill as in the House.
We've achieved an Orwellian State.
We must redouble out efforts to oust all those who voted for this as well as any who have sat by and refused to investigate the erosion of public trust, civil liberties, and dismantlement of our way of life.
The terrorists have won my friends. Legislation like this (which I still feel has been a goal of the Administration since before 9/11) means that we have changed our way of life enough that the terrorists have indeed won. We have lost. We are now victims of state sponsored terroism. KO's statement about the party in power for the sake of power is real. If we do not act fast, any chance to reverse this course and trend of events will be lost. It may already be too late, but we must try.
